The project “Strengthening Capacity for the Implementation of One Health in Vietnam” (SCOH) was funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) via United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project: “Vietnam Avian and Human Influenza Control and Preparedness Project” is co-financed by the Government of Vietnam, AHI Facility Trust Fund, PHRD Grant of Japan and IDA Credit with a total project cost of around US$38.0 million. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and Ministry of Health (MOH) in 11 selected provinces, namely Lang Son, Ha Tay, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dong Thap, and Tien Giang for a 4-year period from 2007 to 2010.
The Vietnam Integrated National Program on Avian Influenza, Pandemic Preparedness and “One Health”, 2011-2015 seeks an International Consultant on Expert on Human Health, Pandemic Preparedness and Response – Appraisal of draft national sectoral plans and provision of written inputs on the human health and pandemic preparedness sections of the Vietnam Integrated National Program on Avian Influenza, Pandemic Preparedness and “One Health”, 2011-2015.
The Vietnam Integrated National Program on Avian Influenza, Pandemic Preparedness and “One Health”, 2011-2015 seeks an International Consultant on Eco-systems Health / Dealing with Zoonotic Diseases at the Animal-Human-Environment Interface.
Background During the past decade, Vietnam has experienced successive significant threats to public health and economic growth from the international transmission of new strains of zoonotic viruses including SARS, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N1) and the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009. The Vietnam Integrated National Operational Program for Avian Influenza (OPI), 2006-2010 (the “Green Book”), has provided a framework for activities by national agencies and international partners with the overall objective of reducing the health risk to humans from avian influenza by controlling the disease at source in domestic poultry, by detecting and responding promptly to human cases, and by preparing for the medical consequences of a human pandemic. A mid-term review of the OPI was conducted in 2009 with 43 recommendations for the future period.

The new UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam, Mr Youssouf Abdel-Jelil, today, presented his credentials to Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ha Kim Ngoc. "UNICEF is known in every Vietnamese family as a champion of children's rights," stated Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ha Kim Ngoc. "Protecting and promoting the rights of the child is a top priority for Viet Nam. While much progress has been made over the years, more needs to be done to close the gap between the ratio of poor children and to ensure they have better access to health care, education and clean water," he noted.
