Launching Meeting of Vietnam One Health Partnership for Zoonoses and Signing of the Partnership Framework

The Viet Nam Partnership on Avian and Human Influenza (PAHI) was originally established in 2006 by the Government of Viet Nam together with international and national partners to facilitate the implementation of Viet Nam’s integrated national response to avian influenza.

Following a clear trend globally and in Viet Nam of moving towards a One Health approach to emerging infectious diseases (EIDs), also adopting the suggestion of the Partnership members and under the direction of the Government, extensive consultations have indicated consensus about re-launching the Partnership as the Viet Nam One Health Partnership for Zoonoses (OHP). The Partnership Framework was approved by the Prime Minister, H.E. Nguyen Tan Dung. Theoverall goal of the One Health Partnership for Zoonoses will be to enhance the capacity of Vietnam to address zoonotic infectious diseases threats at the human-animal*-ecosystem. The new Partnership will build on the success of PAHI, with an expanded disease focus (beyond avian and human influenza) and the engagement of a wider set of partners (including partners working on wildlife health, environmental/ecosystem health and other One Health issues).

The Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to complete the arrangements for signing of the Partnership Framework and launching of the new Partnership. Accordingly, The Launching Meeting of the Partnership, including signing of the Partnership Framework by national and international members will be organized in Hanoi on 1st March, 2016. This meeting will be chaired on behalf of the Government by leader of MARD, together with leader of MOH, and representatives of related national and international partners.

Detailed objectives and principles for the Partnership are included in the Partnership Framework, which can be downloaded via link: www.onehealth.org.vn/documents.
