On 18 February 2014, there was a national teleconference between the central and local government about prevention and control of avian influenza. The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Hoang Trung Hai, and the Minister of MARD, Dr Cao Duc Phat, both participated in this teleconference.
On 12 February 2014, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development signed Decision No. 210/QĐ-BNN-TY on the Action plan on the emergency response to dangerous avian influenza virus strains with the potential to infect humans.
On 13 March 2014, the Minister of MARD signed Decision 438/QĐ-BNN-TY approving the National Operational Plan on Avian influenza Prevention and Control for the period from 2014 to 2018. PAHI Secretariat made an important contribution to the development of this plan through organizing a series of workshop to get comments on the draft plan, and PAHI Secretariat’s international experts also made an important contribution to development of the plan.
On 25-26 August 2014, a meeting on the Technical Review on H7N9 Preparedness in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region was organized in Bangkok, Thailand. Participants at the meeting included government officials from the animal health sector and the human health sector in Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam; representatives from the Veterinary Bureau in China; and representatives from FAO, WHO, OIE and USAID at country, regional and headquarters levels.
The new UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam, Mr Youssouf Abdel-Jelil, today, presented his credentials to Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ha Kim Ngoc. "UNICEF is known in every Vietnamese family as a champion of children's rights," stated Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ha Kim Ngoc. "Protecting and promoting the rights of the child is a top priority for Viet Nam. While much progress has been made over the years, more needs to be done to close the gap between the ratio of poor children and to ensure they have better access to health care, education and clean water," he noted.
